noelcollection:

Happy Birthday to Alexander Pope, born on this day (May 21) in 1688.
Pope was a poet and a translator of Homer’s works. Some of his
well-known writings include An Essay on Criticism (1711) and The
Dunciad
(1728). After he became involved in the Scriblerus Club, he was
encouraged to write a new English translation of the Iliad and the Odyssey. He became financially successful after the publication of his
Iliad translation.
